Viathan Group in line with its vision to enable sustainable living in Nigeria has partnered with the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) in promoting the planting of trees and flora in Lagos for a healthier, more conducive environment of its citizens.

The Viathan team, led by the Group CEO, Habeeb Alebiosu, participated at the event in the Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, alongside the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat who led a delegation from Lagos State.

In his remarks the Deputy Governor stated “that the cultural, spiritual and recreational role of trees make them essential for all of us as human beings. Their benefits make us more resilient despite the economic and mental shocks that we feel. To sustain a state like Lagos, it is in our collective interest to plant trees. It is gratifying to note that a lot of Lagosians have now become enthusiastic about tree planting in our state” he further affirmed.

Viathan Group CEO, Habeeb Alebiosu stated that “tree planting is a simple action we can all take, to tackle climate change and help Nigeria actualise its sustainable development goals”. He noted that “to preserve Lagos for future generations we must take action to reduce our carbon footprint by switching to cleaner sources of energy such as gas, for electricity, transport and industrial uses. That is why Viathan is committed to providing clean uninterrupted electricity to its communities”.

The tree planting event which holds annually on 14 July commenced on the same day in 2008. This year’s exercise, themed “Restore and Recover”, took place simultaneously in 57 locations across Lagos state.
